What to Expect: Birth Coverage

You just found out that you’re pregnant and you already have a million thoughts racing through your head. Some of those thoughts may include:
– how am I gonna tell my partner?
– I wonder if the baby is a boy or a girl. or TWINS?
– we’re going to need a bigger car/house.

What’s probably not going through your head is “I need to find a birth photographer.” Let me be the first to tell you. Really consider booking a photographer for your birth, whether it’s your first baby or fourth.

Let me tell you the main reason why: it’s one thing to experience giving birth – the contractions and pushing, the tears and exhaustion, the total elation and joy when you are finally holding the little one you’ve dreamed so much about. It’s another thing to look back after the fact and remember and feel it again. There, in your photo gallery, are details that you have probably already forgotten and the emotions that you (and everyone that’s with you) is experiencing. And because you have those images, you’ll be able to experience all the joy and elation that you felt when your baby was born all over again.

So you’ve decided (or maybe I’ve convinced you) to hire a photographer to capture the birth of your precious babe.

Here’s what you can expect:

1. Fill out the contact form on my website. Tell me a little about yourself and your family so that I can get to know you!

2. I receive the inquiry and will probably literally squeal. Capturing births are my absolute favorite thing and I’m so excited to capture yours!

3. I will send an email to you with the address that you listed (so please make sure that it’s accurate!) asking for a time to connect over the phone to meet each other and to chat about your pregnancy and birth plan.

4. Respond to my email with a good time to chat over the phone. This is so important! Sometimes emails will be sent to spam or maybe I typed in the address incorrectly! I will follow up with you after 24 hours if I don’t hear back from the initial inquiry.

5. Once we’re on the phone, we’ll get to know each other a bit and will brainstorm a maternity session date/time/location as this is included in each of my birth packages. I find that this maternity session is so crucial as it allows us to meet in person which adds a level of comfort with each other before your birth.

6. Once you’ve decided that we’re a great fit and we’re both so excited (probably me mostly!) – I will email a booking link to you. The booking link contains your unique session info. A downpayment of $500 is required to reserve your birth as I block off my calendar from taking any other births for a 3 week window. You will be able to fill out my birth questionnaire, sign the contract, and make payments online. (ask me about a payment plan if that’s needed!)

7. Once you book your session, I will reserve three weeks on my calendar for your birth! This means that I will not be taking any births that have a due date within three weeks of yours.

8. Relax and grow that baby!

9. Our maternity session will be amazing! We will decide on a date and time on that initial phone call. I will guide you through every shot at your session so relax and have fun with it! Prepare for me to fangirl over the images on the back of my camera throughout the entire session!

10. I will deliver the images to you via an online gallery within one week of your session (though it’s usually much faster than that). Download the session onto your computer and order prints through my shop if you’d like!

11. Once you’re in active labor, call me (even if it’s 2am!). I’ll come right away, ready to capture all the moments of your labor and delivery experience. My goal when at your birth is to be as invisible as possible so that you can focus on each contraction, each moment, each push. I will stay until 1-2 hours after birth so I can capture that golden hour of bonding, too.

12. I know that you’ll want to share some of your favorite images with friends and family, so it’s my goal to send them to you as quickly as possible. I will go home, upload the images to my computer, edit them, and send them to you within 3 days of your birth (but again, it’s usually faster than this because I know you’re excited to share them as I am!). Your gallery will include BOTH color and B&W images.

13. Once you receive your images, please download and share them with your friends and family. If you have social media, please tag me so that I can share in the excitement of the safe arrival of your sweet baby. If you would like to order a photo book of your favorite images or any prints, you can do that directly from the gallery or by reaching out to me.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on the soon arrival of your sweet baby. I can’t wait to work with you!

Best –
